Event: SOYA 09 Cosplay Event!

Hi fellas!

The Illuminate Animation Competition 2009 is finally LAUNCHED! After weeks of preparation. I'm glad its finally here!

Illuminate Animation Competition 2009

For more info, please visit the Website!

Painting - 2hrs (1am-3am plus!)
Reference: A model.

Its another painting practice. I realize that painting directly from Photoshop .. or any other medium for that matter, really helps to improve my observation skills.

Currently, completing the last bits of a comics I'm doing for a local comics cometition. i hope to published it here soon!

Need to do more paintings of such to improve if I want to be better!

ANNOUNCEMENT: I'll be at the SOYA(Start of the Year Again!) Cosplay Convention with a bunch of other friends of Aspiring Mangaka and Writers Club for artworks display!

I'll also be accepting commissions and will bring some of my printed artworks, so if you are there, come over and say "Hi!"

Info: The first of many local Anime related events for the year 2009, Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Japanese Tsubasa Club is holding the Start of Year Again! 09 Cosplay Event (SOYA ‘09), this being the second iteration of the Start of Year cosplay event first held by the club in 2008. The event will be held on their campus on the 31st of Jan 2009, Saturday 11am - 6pm.

Like most Cosplay events, there will be booths and competitions (cosplay and Karaoke) at SOYA’09, in addition to the cosplayers strutting off their stuff. So most anime fans will be able to find something interesting to see or do at the event. Do go down to take a look!

Please check out their website for more details, paying special attention to event rules and regulations.

Warm Regards,
Joshua Tay

Happy New Year, Smile Girl!

Happy New Year, Smile Girl!

Happy New Year! Smile Girl!

I was tired and stress drawing details and stuff which needed to hand in the next day, so have a go with this to relieve myself.

I really love how Benjamin Zhang does his paintings. The colors are dynamic and of a differnt approach.

It was a good try. haha..

This is done directly from Photoshop, no pencils/pens, none-stop 2 hrs of painting and all done in one layer!

Very, Very busy month of December and january!

More artworks to come later this month! Oohhsaaah!

4th January OIC Portrait Day @ MAAD

Hi fellas,

Yesterday, I had one of the longest and fastest doodling sessions with many outstanding local illustrators. Among them, there's Andrew aka Drewscape(Click!) and Michael aka Mindflyer(Click!). Both of them were real cool and hospitable. I enjoyed talking to them very much! Whoo~!

Overall, We spent about 5-6 hours sitting there just doodling people, with about 5 mins breaks in between. Some of whom I heard were regular "customers". One of the customer, a lady, bought my sketch. Yay! I manage to sell my first Sketch for 8 Bucks!! Not bad for a first timer huh?. Hah… Here are all the sketches I have drawn; I don't have the sketch of the one sold and I also didn’t manage to get a pic of the lady who bought it. ><)!

All sketches are done within 15 mins on the spot. I used only pens to sketched directly, and for some, markers. I enjoyed quick sketches with markers!^^

an initial practice

Its not at all good in my opinion, I hope to improve further the next time round. No excuses!
What I had in mind was to use this opportunity to test out several mediums and also to get myself familiarize and confident using pens. It was a very good experience. I was switching styles here and there; testing them out to see how it would look. I like the colored 1st piece pretty much. Also I realize that this is perhaps the only time you get to "stare" at people without getting yourself into fights. Haha.. Actually, I have this tendency of staring at people and just feeling so amaze at that particular person. ^^

Drawing portraits gives me the opportunity to observe people and one of the things I’ve realize is that different artists produce different portraits. The difference is due to the style used by the artists and the personality of the artists themselves. So overall it was a heavenly good time!

If you're interested, join us in the month of February. Check out this space for updates >>> [link]

Keep Drawing~!!

Josh Laboratorie Under Construction.

First post of 2009! This is something I did recently. I'm in the mist of planning for a whole new website by itself.

Josh Laboratorie

Tools: Pencil, Photoshop CS.

I'm still planning through the design and stuff, hopefully the final template will be ready by June.

2009 is going to be exciting. Come 3rd Jan, I'll be attending the Organisation of Illustrators Council (Click!) for its monthly Portrait Day (Click!) @ MAAD (Click!). Its something significant as I'll get to mingle around and learn from established illustrators in Singapore. Oooo~

Also on 31st Jan 2009, I'll be setting up a booth at the annual SOYA Cosplay 2009 (Click!) together with some of my friends from the Aspiring Mangaka & Writers Club. I'll only be displaying some prints and portfolio work; I'll also be open for commissions. Although its not a major event, nevertheless its my first event as an artist. It willl also gives me an experience of how is it like.
