CONCEPT: "TELEFREIGHT" which is a concept of teleportation engineering plus the service of an airfreight. In the near future as human population hit 10 billions, owning a car doesn't seem feasble for individuals. Problems such as air polutions emitted from automobiles becoming increasingly uncontrollable, despite heavy greenhouse prevention measures and Kyoto Protocol policies. Traffic congestions and the lack of space also prompted world transportation governing body to have to think of a better solution. Hence, the concept propose: "TELEFREIGHT".

Some Oil Painting Practise.

Last week, I continued my oil painting practise. This time I've attempted oil painting in 2.5 hrs. My artwork(Right side) trying to mirror the picture on the left. It's still WIP, so hope to complete it by next week and put it up here.

I haven't been back to the studio for almost a year due to busy schedules. So imagine my surprise when I find the same teacher, who still kept my past artwork below. I was so touched and thankful she still kept it.

365 Days of Sketches: Number #137

Tools: Photoshop CS4, Pencil for drawings, Ball Point Pen for inking.

With the fast pace of society, many people are facing stress and anxiety from many areas in their life. If you are facing stress, doing other things that doesn't require much cognitive thinking helps. One of the ways is to allow your hands to do the work, such as gardening, painting, cooking, etc. In a way, your hands are now doing the thinking, relieving you mind.

Personally, I don't enjoy gardening, however, when I'm painting, expecially when I'm oil painting. I don't think so much of the day, I simply enjoy the process of painting. I find that after painting for a couple of hours, my mind is relaxe.

"You don't have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you." ~ Dan Millman

What other ways do you suppose we can reduce stress and anxiety? Feel free to leave your comments below.

Illustrations for Children's Church - 29th September 2013

Latest work for Children's Church.  I'm always very excited whenever i've got the opportunity to create something for Children's Church. It's such a blessing.

The story is about how a man who had a beautiful family, did not learn to appreciate what he had. Instead, he neglected his family and went overseas for pleasure and try to earn quick buck. As a result, he lost everything and was sent to jail While he served his sentence, he felt remorseful and dreamed of uniting with his wife again.

The style of the drawing was simple, however due to lack of time I couldn't create much background. Overall, I felt the essence of the story was pretty well portrayed.

365 Days of Sketches: Number #136

Tools: Photoshop CS4, Pencil for drawings, Ball Point Pen for inking.

There was a day if I can recalled correctly; while I was attending a session on how children paint. The speaker says while adults naturally think that the sky is blue, it may not be so for children. For the children, the sky or trees maybe yellow, brown, orange, etc. To the children, the colors doesn't restrict their creativity. Anyay, it is also true that the sky only appears blue for some time of the day.

I thought I use the same approach with the hair in this image. Although, naturally, people nowadays love to dye their hair streaks or pure solid. I believe one day some innovative person will invent a way to allow people print/dye patterns on their hair. Well, you never know, that could be some awesome trend!

If you have an idea, find a way to make it come to pass.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do, than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." ~ Mark Twain

365 Days of Sketches: Number #135

"Love is the greatest refreshment in life." ~ Pablo Picasso

Tools: Photoshop CS4, Pencil for drawings, Ball Point Pen for inking.

Hi there,

I'm back to painting 365 Days. Every paint I hope to achieve a different results from the previous. It's also obvious to me that the researches I've done over the week influences the artwork I produced. The past few weeks, I have been browsing through many children artists' artwork such as those by Peter Reynold's and Quentin Blake. You can't help being influenced by artworks you admire.

Over the week i also had the opportunity to paint some images for Children's Church. It'll be shown this weekend to some children, I will be posting up some of them here. It's always a pleasure and priviledge to paint for the children.

Feel free to share this post or comment what you feel about it at the comments space below.

[EVENT] A Collection of Our Shared Memories: Exhibiting local comics from 1920s - 2013

What is it:
A Collection of Our Shared Memories is a comic exhibition that puts together local comic works from the past 90 years.
Local comic works from different generations allow us to peek into the daily lives of people throughout the years, which in turn reflect the greater socio-political background of that time. Hence, it is evident that newspaper comics serve as an important tool for documenting historical changes.
This exhibition presents works from the 1920s to 2013 and offers visitors a sneak peek into the long arc of history. In observing the daily lives of past and present generations through comics, we hope to look back on another set of our shared memories.

Where:
Venue: Promenade, Level 9, National Library Building

When:
Start Date:  06/08/2013 End Date:  31/08/2013

The JOSHLAB Bulletin

Yesterday, I had beta launched an online edu-news portal. For those of you who follow me on twitter and facebook would have gotten the news.

The idea to launch a news portal has been on my mind for some months, but the plan to launch it was still blur. Why would I launch a news portal? Do I need a team to collate all the news out there? To be clear, the JOSHLAB Bulletin is only distributing news from around the globe on educational materials, news and events related to arts.* I do hope that in future, I can produce my own original arts events or educational materials that serve a meaningful purpose to the local arts community.

So the purpose of The 'JOSHLAB Bulletin' is, as the subtext indicate, to connect the arts community to the artist - the amateur and new artist. However, hopefully it will serve my professionals friends some good too. With most of the global art news and educational materials all in one place, I sure hope it will gives the the new artist somewhere for a head start.

I would wish I had some help when I just got started.

Having said so much, here is the link which you can read. It's updated weekly: [LINK]

Feel free to leave your comments and feedback on how I can make 'The JOSHLAB Bulletin' better.

Thank you.

365 Days of Sketches: Number #134

Tools: Pencil for line work, Pen for inking, Photoshop for colors.

I had a bit of difficulty trying to make this piece work. I tried to come out a new background color for the person, and also, the pose wass changed from the previous 365 sketches. Not all approaches to art pieces are the same, and as artist I definitely can't have only a single approach to all of them.

Currently, just to let you know I have an upcoming personal project in the works which I can only reveal in time to come. Hopefully, this time I will finally get to bring it out to the public.

The "365 Days of Sketches" series is a personal initiative to draw different faces of people over 365 days. In doing so I hope to motivate myself to draw more and see how far I have improve through the process.

Of Pandas and Dinosaurs: Sketch Studies of Animals

Recently, I began doing more sketches to increase my familiarity of the subjects on animals. Still remember, when I was just starting out drawings, one of the first creatures I drew were pandas and dinosaurs. Those memorable moments were really helpful as they increase my love for the subjects and nature itself. I also notice that you will, perhaps, never really understand fully a particular subject until you spend time to draw them out.

Clay Sculpting at Rochester Mall.

Last Saturday, I had an hour of sculpting session with some kids for Wiz Kidz event held at Rochester mall.
There were lots of parents and kids, and many booths presenting their individual crafts to the public. It was an enjoyable day. I'm glad to be able to participate this event on behalf of Artoons SG and hope to see more of such family bonding event in Singapore.

Were you there that day? :)
